Oh, no, the reason I don’t like this isn’t because I’m “looking at it through […] stubborn angry bbc goggles.”

It’s because the trailer and basic plot are amazingly sexist, their Sherlock is shown to be an obnoxious jerk with no redeeming qualities except his (admittedly nice) accent, and frankly, the writing and acting just aren’t very good.

See, I would have maybe given it a shot. Then they gave us “Joan Watson is a disgraced surgeon who is now a caretaker, literally, to a man who treats her like absolute shit, mistakes her for a maid even after she tells him what her job is, and introduces her as his valet, and she will now spend the remainder of the trailer following him around, doing nothing significant or important to the plot, praising him all the way.”

Which is pretty much exactly what I predicted, months ago, that they would do, and got the same bullshit responses — “oh, you’re just a butthurt Sherlock fan!” Yeah, except I’m right, this is sexist crap, and I’m honestly embarrassed by the number of people who now suddenly want to see this shit.

when she gives him this absolutely furious face after he mistakes her for a maid

do you seriously think this character is just going to follow him around and praise him

I don’t know if I’m going to watch this or not, I can only tell that the humor doesn’t seem to be so good. I don’t know how I come to this conclusion.

And the trailer isn’t done well. The chosen shots, the music, … doesn’t fit so well. It is amazing that you can tell right away this is an american production just by the camera’s perspective.

Why did they call it “Elementary”? :/

Sorry, but I still find this absolutely riddicoulous. I really wanted to give this show a chance and not say that it is bad just because it is not the BBC Sherlock. But this isn’t Sherlock Holmes at all. If this was just any crime series it wouldn’t be that bad, but this is supposed to be Sherlock Holmes. I don’t see Sherlock Holmes when I look at this, not at all. It just doesn’t fit.

I actually want to watch at least one episode before I start judging it from the trailer. From what I’ve seen, it looks at if Watson can really hold her own. You can tell the show is going to be emotional. Yes, Sherlock is an asshole, but bbc’s Sherlock was also an asshole, more times than not. This Sherlock will have redeemable qualities just as bbc’s did (Watson said ‘you don’t have mirrors because you know a lost cause when you see one’, obviously Mr. Holmes has some issues with himself. Keep in mind Sherlock’s thoughts probably race just as all the other Holmes, it would be disappointing if they didn’t, so it’s probably hard to stop any impulses). I don’t even know why I’m comparing because Sherlock is always going to be redone, as it’s been redone time after time. This is not the first girl Watson either. And I certainly don’t see how it’s sexist. She’s professional, trying to forget about her past and immersing herself in this strange man is probably something she really needs, just as John from BBC needed Sherlock in his life. She didn’t accept Sherlock’s casual comments about her being a maid and obviously knows how to keep up with his wit, at least enough to stop him up. She’s strong so far, from what I’ve seen. I think it’s an interesting take and am generally interested to see what I actually think of it when I see the entirety of the first episode.
